The Gulf of Mexico Climate Outreach Community of Practice is holding its annual workshop to bring together extension, outreach and education professionals from around the Gulf of Mexico. The workshop’s focus is to provide members of the community of practice with a regional perception on climate change within the Gulf of Mexico and appropriate methods to communicate and engage with communities for addressing climate change. These professionals will interact with local decision-makers who will present case studies from around the Gulf of Mexico related to sea-level rise and adaptation planning. During the workshop, there will be facilitated sessions for participants to discuss viewpoints of their constituents on climate change and sea level rise, learn effective methods for communicating risk and become better informed about tools available online for use by coastal communities in developing adaptation strategies. We also will have a session dealing with the use of social marketing in climate change. The workshop will also provide a forum to collaborate with other professionals in the related fields.
