How
to...
The OAC Aquaculture Cage,
moored 25 miles off the Mississippi coast, experiences numerous environmental
conditions not usually found in other locations around the world, including
exposure to wind and wave action from all directions, short/steep wave patterns,
strong currents, seasonal anoxic conditions at depth, and periodic presence
of a nepheloid layer. These unique environmental conditions have challenged
the OAC to develop operational procedures to address these issues throughout
its research efforts.
Learn how the OAC has overcome the Gulf's challenges by exploring the cage schematic below. It should be apparent that some of the described procedures are specific to the Ocean Spar Sea Station cage, which the OAC is currently using, and that other cage systems might require different approaches in their use.
