Dr. Sharon WalkerDr. Sharon Walker, MASGC Education Director, is working half-time for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office of Education (OEd) and the National Sea Grant Program (NSGP). In this role, Dr. Walker spends one week in Washington, D.C., and one week in Mississippi assisting NOAA’s OEd and NSGP staff in moving ocean literacy issues forward at the national level. In addition to implementing recommendations from the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy’s An Ocean Blueprint for the 21st Century (September 2004) and the Conference of Ocean Literacy Report (December 2006), she is representing the Sea Grant Education Network in revisions of its component of the Sea Grant National Strategic Plan and providing national updates to the Sea Grant Education Network. Dr. Walker also works on several national and regional committees that coordinate the education and outreach activities of the Gulf of Mexico Alliance and the Gulf Coast Ocean Observing System with Sea Grant’s regional research program.
