MASGC shares in Gulf Guardian Award

MASGC shared in the second-place Gulf Guardian Award in the partnership category for its involvement in the Gulf of Mexico Marine Debris Project. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Gulf of Mexico Program selects award recipients. The awards recognize innovative solutions that come about when people pool resources and look for creative ways to have a positive impact on quality of life and economic well-being in the Gulf.

The marine debris project mapped and removed debris after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. MASGC and the Louisiana Sea Grant implemented outreach efforts related to a Web site that showed the location of underwater debris.

The NOAA Office of Coast Survey and Office of Response and Restoration, U.S. Coast Guard, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Mississippi Department of Marine Resources and Louisiana Department of Natural Resources were partners in the project.
